Gordon ran the Chicago-based confectioner for 53 years, overseeing the manufacture of 64 million Tootsie Rolls a day and other favourites including Junior Mints, Charleston Chews and Tootsie Pops.

Cicero Ave. The company was founded in 1896 by Austrian immigrant Leo Hirschfield, who named the candy for his daughter, whom he called "Tootsie." Tootsie Roll has been criticized for secretive corporate governance.
