Volkswagen A.G. is looking into whether earlier versions of its current diesel engine contained software capable of rigging emissions tests, it said on Thursday, potentially widening a scandal that has rocked Europe's biggest carmaker. The German company said last month that software used to cheat U.S. diesel emissions tests could be in up to 11 million vehicles worldwide fitted with its older EA 189 diesel engine.

Guardian: Two-thirds of Germans say they still trust Volkswagen despite the emissions rigging scandal that has engulfed the carmaker, according to a survey. Sixty-five percent of respondents in a poll conducted earlier this month thought the scandal had been exaggerated and that VW still built excellent cars, according to the management consultancy Prophet, which carried out the research. Three quarters said they would still buy a VW car if they liked the vehicle and the price, and 63% expected the affair...

German automaker Volkswagen A.G. may face a 30 billion lawsuit by shareholders following the emissions scandal, reports DigitalLook. U.K.-based litigation finance group Bentham Europe Ltd. has hired law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver & Hedges L.L.P. to prepare a class action for Volkswagen investors in Germany.

A pair of independent Dane County car dealers have sued Volkswagen Group of America, joining the rush of plaintiffs hoping to become leaders of class actions over VW's recently exposed use of secret software to defeat admissions testing in its popular diesel vehicles. In their suit, filed in federal court in Madison, A to Z Auto Sports , of Madison, and MSI Auto Sales and Repair, of Middleton, claim they each acquired VW Jettas over the summer that contained the devices that activtivte emission controls only during emissions testing.
