Forbes: A new study released Tuesday suggests that the global oil and gas industries allow as much as 3.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and almost certainly far more to escape into the atmosphere annually. The leakage rate represents at least $30 billion in lost revenues, the analysis found, and it reinforces previous studies suggesting that the much-touted climate benefits of the expanding shale boom are unlikely to be realized unless these so-called fugitive emissions are brought under control....

US oil and natural gas rig count drops by 34 to 954

Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. declined by 34 this week to 954 amid depressed oil prices. Houston-based Baker Hughes said Friday 734 rigs were seeking oil and 217 explored for natural gas.
Natural gas pipeline, facilities in northern B.C. get energy board approval

The National Energy Board has given approval for the construction of a natural gas pipeline and new facilities proposed by TransCanada Corp. in northern B.C. The $1.7-billion North Montney Mainland Project would include a 300-kilometre pipeline connecting from northeast B.C. to the proposed Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Pipeline for export of liquefied natural gas. The board found that the projects did not pose significant adverse environmental effects, although the construction is still subject to government approval.
