Veresen Inc. is spending more than US$1.4 billion to buy a stake in a U.S. pipeline, a deal it says will bolster the company's plans to ship liquefied natural gas from a proposed terminal on the Oregon coast. The Calgary-based company on Monday announced a deal to buy a 50 per cent stake in the Ruby pipeline system from Global Infrastructure Partners.

Northeast Utilities, Spectra to expand natural gas pipeline

Northeast Utilities and Spectra Energy Corp. have announced plans to expand natural gas access to New England and end bottlenecks that have driven up prices when demand spikes in the winter. The companies said Tuesday the $3 billion project expanding a network of pipelines is expected to begin operating in November 2018.

Chevron draining natural gas after worker death

Authorities say that Chevron is still releasing natural gas from a pipeline off the Louisiana coast where a Saturday incident killed a maintenance worker. Col. Mike Edmonson, the superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, said Sunday his agency and the U.S. Coast Guard intend to send a joint team to the platform Monday to start an investigation.
