Garlock Sealing Technologies LLC, the EnPro Industries Inc. unit that filed Chapter 11 in June 2010 to address asbestos claims, won a long-fought battle with personal-injury claimants when their request to reopen the record of a trial estimating the company's aggregate asbestos liability was denied. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge George R. Hodges in Charlotte, North Carolina, already held a lengthy trial to estimate the amount of valid claims, finding in January that $125 million was a "reasonable and reliable estimate" of the total liability to pending and future mesothelioma claimants.

Schneiderman: Judge halts Alzheimer's drug swap

New York's attorney general says a drug manufacturer has been ordered to halt plans to discontinue its widely used Alzheimer's medication, allegedly in an effort to drive patients to a newer patented drug. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman alleges anti-trust and state law violations by Dublin-based Actavis PLC and New York subsidiary Forest Laboratories in an effort to avoid losses from cheaper generic alternatives coming out next year.
Judge rules Hastings auto dealer needn't cover contraceptives

A federal judge in Minneapolis ruled Monday that the owner of Hastings Ford and Hastings Chrysler Center does not have to pay for health insurance coverage for certain contraceptives such as Plan B, ella emergency contraceptive and certain kinds of IUDs. Douglas Erickson said in a lawsuit that contraceptives that prevent a fertilized egg from being implanted in a woman's uterus violate his belief that life begins at conception.
Judge Finds Cablevision and CEO Dolan Guilty of Illegal Actions

A Federal Administrative Law Judge ruled late last week that Cablevision and its CEO James Dolan broke multiple labor laws in an attempt to stop workers in Brooklyn and the Bronx from unionizing. CWA will now begin the process to get New York City to bring the corporation into compliance with its cable franchise and, if necessary, declare it in default of the franchise for violations of the labor rights provisions of the agreement.
