Solar Energy Pops Up in Unexpected Places
2015-09-18 14:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
National Geographic: Breathtaking desert expanses of panels and mirrors mark solar energy's growth, but renewables' next wave won't be confined to dusty no-man's-land. As researchers find new ways to make solar smaller, see-through, and sticky, virtually any surface under the sun is fair game for clean power. Solar photovoltaic capacity is already expanding widely and expected to more than triple in the next 10 years, according to a recent report. (See surprising countries where wind and solar are booming.) Here are...

People Pushing for Solar Power in Valley
2015-09-17 19:31:51| Waste Management - Topix.net
Wednesday afternoon at the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, leaders in the solar movement met to have a listening session on the "Clean Power Plan." "I could have children, or grandchildren rather that could live into the next century, and as I have educated myself on the climate science I'm beginning to be terrified for them," said Joy Loving, a member of several solar co-ops.

China push into solar, wind power to heat up global copper markets
2015-09-17 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: As China's slowdown hits demand for metals in traditional sectors such as housing and heavy industry, copper is being offered a lifeline: massive plans to expand solar and wind power in the world's second-biggest economy. Beijing's push into renewables as it looks to tackle the pollution that has choked its cities is set to be a vital new source of demand for copper, which as the world's most conductive base metal is used in cables for solar panels and parts for wind turbines. Reuters calculations...
ASTM Standard will increase durability of solar equipment.
2015-09-17 14:31:09| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
ASTM has published standard that provides important test for PV equipment used to generate solar energy. E3006, Practice for Ultraviolet Conditioning of Photovoltaic Modules or Mini-Modules Using a Fluorescent Ultraviolet Lamp Apparatus is used to screen out materials that degrade quickly when exposed to UV radiation from sunlight. Module manufacturers will use standard to test new materials and designs prior to submitting them to accredited laboratories for independent qualification.
