A Southern California law firm has sued Kimberly-Clark Corp for more than $500 million, alleging that the Kleenex tissue maker committed fraud by marketing and selling some of its surgical gowns as protection against Ebola. Law firm Eagan Avenatti said it filed a class-action lawsuit in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday, stating that Kimberly-Clark had falsely represented to health regulators and healthcare workers that its "MICROCOOL Breathable High Performance Surgical Gowns" are impermeable and provide protection against Ebola.

Both of southeastern Connecticut's hospitals said they have already implemented the updated Ebola procedures announced Monday by the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Emergency Nurses Association. Rebecca Stewart, spokeswoman for Hartford HealthCare, the network that includes The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, said the Emergency Department there has implemented the recommendations from the hospitals in Nebraska and Atlanta that had successfully treated Ebola patients.

Swiss test GSK Ebola vaccine in some volunteers going to Africa

Switzerland's drug regulator said on Tuesday it had approved the testing of an experimental Ebola vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline on healthy volunteers, some of whom will be traveling to West Africa as medical staff. The trial will be conducted among 120 volunteer participants at the Lausanne University Hospital, with support from the World Health Organization.
