2014-12-17 19:47:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Argentina's Lower House has approved a draft bill to reform the country's telecoms law with 131 votes in favor and 97 against. The bill had been recently approved by the Senate and is likely to be promulgated by the government in the short term. The new bill takes into account developments in convergent technologies and will allow telecoms operators to offer triple play services under a single concession. Until now, telecoms operators were not allowed to offer pay-TV services. However, telecoms operators will not be allowed to offer satellite TV services. Argentina's previous telecommunications law had been approved in 1972. The bill also introduce new regulation which will allow telecoms firms to have access to other operators' network infrastructure. Also, the bill stipulates the creation of a new agency to regulate the ICT market.
