China discusses data security, cooperation with Apple CEO
2014-10-22 17:05:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Apple CEO Tim Cook met with China's Vice Premier Ma Kai in Beijing to talk about user data security, Reuters reported, citing the official Xinhua news agency. The meeting comes after a Chinese internet monitoring group published a report saying Apple users in China have been targeted in a hack attack seeking private user data stored on the iCloud service. The group, Greatfire.org, has alleged Chinese government involvement in the hack, a claim the government has strongly refuted. Apple has not issued any public statements on the matter. Talks between Cook and Kai were about the protection of user information and on "strengthening cooperation and in information and communication fields," according to Xinhua. Greatfire told Reuters that Apple appeared to have rerouted user data to circumvent the hack.
