This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, calls for experience of the full development cycle of data dissemination systems. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. The jobholder will write and review requirement specifications and change proposals, prepare procurements, participate in technical inspections and reviews, document the system architecture design and write evaluation reports, review reports, test reports and overall status reports The key experience and attributes sought are System Engineering AIT experience for the development of major upgrades new ground segments for dissemination systems in a 247 operational environment Full development cycle of data dissemination systems, from the definition of requirements to design and testing At least 5 years working experience in the field of data dissemination systems Standard communication protocols, data exchange protocols, data compression schemes Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Configuration control processes and tools Background in hardware and software aspects of computer systems Experience with satellite data transport standards e.g. DVB, CCSDS Candidates must possess a University degree or equivalent. Fluency in English is essential. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 2 years starting in July 2013 with two options to extend for further periods of one year each.
