We are looking for an experienced Data Handling Systems Engineer to work in large volume project team for a prestigious European customer. The role is focused on open source based technologies used for operating systems, database, and software development technologies. Package description Full details on application The position is a permanent contract. Main responsibilities The Data Handling Systems Engineer is responsible of the following activities Definition of processes and scenarios for the management of large EarthObservation datasets. Characterisation of User Access Scenarios. Monitoring and optimization of data retrieval and ingestion performances. Forecast of the data volumes and analysis of trends. Support to Capacity Planning for data storage and computing services. Support to Change Management for what regards evolution of the data offer and analysis of potential evolutions necessary to satisfy evolving requirements. Analysis of possible optimizations wrt. the data sources interfaces. Support to data handling operations engineering. Definition of processes and scenarios for the retrieval of large EarthObservation datasets, from different data sources. Routinely manage data access services servers operating systems and database applications and relevant aspects related to performance, integrity and security. Monitoring and optimization of data retrieval and ingestion performances. Forecast of the data volumes and analysis of trends. Support to the preparation of the Capacity Planning for data storage services. Analysis of the impacts of the introduction of new EO datasets. Identification of system evolutions, in terms of data handling functions. Support to data handling operations engineering. Contribute to the planning and development of the database layout. Work on resolving incidents. Ensure data consistency, users access management, data security and recoverability, efficient performance. Execute monitoring and control of the data flows and associated servers and database infrastructure resources to proactively handle capacity, performance and availability issues. Continuously plan for data access components tuning tasks. Support the translation into data modelling of logical design. Support the information security monitoring and proactive tasks. Owns technical documentation and drives for its adoption. Regular interaction with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure data systems integrity and security. Ideal candidate Apart from a University degree in a relevant technical discipline, the ideal candidate should bring the following experience Proven experience in the EarthObservation domain Knowledge of Copernicus Ground Segment and Copernicus Data Access Technical documentation writing English Good problem solving and analytical skills Ability to work to deadlines Excellent Interpersonal and team working capabilities Systems integration e.g. sys admin mainly in a GNULinux environment with network security experience Experience in GNULinux based systems administration Proven working experience database management MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB Technical Reporting Problem solving and analytical skills Familiarity with data manipulation languages and database design Skills to work under pressure and willingness to keep up to date with new technology Important Any offer of employment is contingent upon you providing documents to verify your identity and employment eligibility, as required by law.
