Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks shows 3.4% decrease of overall U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2012 from 2011. Listed among contributing factors were decreases in energy consumption across all sectors in U.S. economy, decrease in carbon intensity for electricity generation due to fuel switching from coal to natural gas, decreased transportation sector emissions due to increased fuel efficiency, and limited new demand for passenger transportation.
