Scientific onsite consultancy support is sought to contribute to the development of product processing facilities of the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG ground segment. The consultant will provide support in the areas of optical and microwave imaging, microwave sounding, or scatterometry, to the generation of algorithm theoretical basis documents, product generation specifications, products definition, prototype processors, calibrationvalidation plans, test data and performance budgets. Responsibilities Duties The activities for this consultancy will include scientific aspects related to the development of the product processing facilities of the EPSSG ground segment. The consultant will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. The consultant will work at EUMETSAT Headquarters, located in Darmstadt, Germany. Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial calibrationvalidation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams Participation in reviews Qualifications Experience Scientific consultancy will be sought in the one of the following areas Optical imaging or Microwave imaging or Microwave sounding or Scatterometry Essential Skills University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing in one or more of the areas listed above Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Java Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office Good interpersonal skills in support of team work Desirable Skills Experience in understanding and writing requirements Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains Experience with calibration and product validation methods Knowledge in radiative transfer Vega Vacancies Footer Benefits Competitive salary plus a comprehensive benefits package including 30 days holiday, generous training possibilities, TELESPAZIO VEGA Deutschland pension scheme is offered to the successful candidate.
