Space ApplicationsServices performs space system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the space industry. We are involved in international unmanned and manned spacecraft programmes. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position EUROCOM Operations Engineer ENGSERVECOM201311 Communications between the International Space Station inorbit crew and the ground control teams are essential to the success of any space mission. In order to streamline the exchange of information, only one person in a control centre, is assigned to interface with the crew in space within ESA this person is called the EUROCOM. Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Astronaut Centre EAC in Cologne, Germany. The position will cover the following tasks and responsibilities and include certification training Realtime Console Operations Communicate with the crew onboard the International Space Station. Represent the onboard crew in the Columbus Flight Control Team. Review of Columbus related systems and payload procedures. Review of the onboard timeline for Columbus related activities. Review of work emails and messages from ColCC to the ISS crew. Offline Tasks Participate in regular coordination meetings and telecons. Support EUROCOM information sharing and action item tracking. Support the offline review of operations related documents. Support debriefings with astronauts, returning from a space mission. Support the update of the web based EUROCOM eRoom and internal planning. If required, cover the function of EUROCOM Increment Lead. Crew Training Support Support Columbus Systems, Payload and ATV training dryruns. Support, as EUROCOM, Crew Evaluation Simulations. Support Crew Reviews, including the preparation of the related reports. Support the collection of lessons learned from a space mission. Support simulations as either crew surrogate or simulation officer. Participate in both European and Integrated international partner simulations. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have University degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering and several years of experience in operations, preferably within the manned space programme. Furthermore, candidates are required to have following skills Ability to cope with pressure. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world. Fluent in English knowledge of another member state language is an asset. High level of flexibility and willingness to travel. Good organization skills, good communication skills.
