Flight Software Engineer, Space and Atmospheric Physics Group, Imperial College London Fixed term 6 months, commencing as soon as possible Shared Parental Leave cover We are seeking an outstanding software engineer to join the Solar Orbiter Magnetometer team at the Space Magnetometer Laboratory within Department of Physics. The Lab is well established in the field of space hardware, having had a major scientific and hardware involvement in worldleading heliospheric, magnetospheric and planetary physics space missions flown by NASA and ESA. Further details can be found at httpswww.imperial.ac.ukspaceandatmosphericphysics You will be working on the instrument onboard embedded flight software for the Solar Orbiter magnetometer instrument. Solar Orbiter is due for launch in October 2018. You will be responsible for finalising and releasing the flight software to be loaded onto the magnetometer in Q1 2018. You must have a degree in computing, electronic engineering, physics or a closely related discipline, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of research, industrial or commercial experience. Experience of writing code in one or more software languages e.g. C is essential. Experience of writing C code applying a MISRA C or other coding standard, and experience of writing code for RTEMS or another realtime operating system, would be desirable, but is not essential. You will also be expected to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have experience of working effectively as part of a team to ensure technical deadlines are met. You will have the ability to apply new concepts, and will have a creative approach to problem solving. The post is suitable for graduates with software knowledge who also show excellent communication and team working skills and like to be challenged. You will join a small team that has developed the hardware and ground software for this exciting mission.
