This position for an INR Image Navigation and Registration Software Engineer, based near Frankfurt in Germany, calls for experience of INR processing for both imager and sounder instruments carried by Earth observation satellites. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. You will contribute to the development and operation of a new Polar satellite system based on an initial launch by the end of 2020. The role provides support to the satellite programme in the area of INR and geometrical processing. Primarily the activities have the objective to establish and maintain the knowledge needed to support INR processing as part of the mission data processing functionality both for online and offline functions. In addition, you will contribute to the review and refinement of the INR architecture at the programme system level. The key experience and attributes sought are University degree in a relevant discipline such as aerospace engineering, physics or remote sensing Minimum of five years experience in system design, specifications and implementation of INR processors andor simulators andor mathematical models for both imager and sounder instruments Development of INR software for operational processing of satellite meteorological data in UNIX environments Expert level on Image Navigation and Registration INR methodologies and techniques Observable processing, LineofSight LOS modelling, geolocation, and state vector estimation for threeaxis stabilised satellites preferably in low Earth orbit Specification, development, and testing of INR processor software for threeaxis stabilised platforms Integration, Verification and Validation of INR processing subsystems for satellite meteorological or remote sensing data Proficiency in a highlevel programming language e.g. CC suitable for the implementation of prototype and operational INR processor software Characterisation and modelling of space segment elements related to INR e.g. scan mirror and line of sight models Familiarity with mission data processing of satelliteborne instruments, in particular in relation to INR, geolocation, and geometrical processing Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Processes, phases and documentation related to the development of operational data processing systems in the field of Earth Observation Specification and maintenance of processing requirements and related tools e.g. IBM DOORs Global standards for data, e.g.NetCDF4 or HDF5 ECSS standards Fluency in English is essential. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 2 years starting in August 2013 with two options to extend for further periods of one year each.
