This is a opportunity for an experienced Remote Sensing Scientist or Engineer with minimum 3 years experience in implementing operational data processing software for Metop andor Meteosat instrument data and analyzing the resulting product quality. The Engineer will support EUMETSAT contribution to EU FP7 ERACLIM2 project for reanalysis of global climate observations by constructing long term time series of Meteosat products with improved consistency over time. The position is full time and unlimited and based in Darmstadt fully on customer side in EUMETSAT. Earliest start date is October 2015. Submission deadline for applicants is beginning of September 2015. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Tasks typically includes Contributions to product and algorithm specifications Implementation of operational product processing chains in the reprocessing environment Implementation of operational processors into the operational reprocessing chains Development and implementation of operational functional and product quality monitoring procedures Analysis of resulting product quality QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE minimum of 3 years experience implementing operational data processing software for Metop andor Meteosat instrument data minimum of 3 years experience validating meteorological satellite derived products engineering degree ESSENTIAL SKILLS Fluency in English UNIX application development and testing in C, C and Fortran 9095 Scripting languages such as Python, Perl, TclTk, shell Software build environments and tools such as make, imake, debuggers, insure Analysis software such as IDL and Matlab DESIRABLE SKILLS Data bases such as MySQL and Oracle Calibration of satellite observations Utilisation of satellite and climatological data sets Use of satellite data in modelbased reanalysis Atmospheric radiative transfer Inversion methods for retrieval of geophysical parameters Source code control systems, such as Subversion, Rational ClearCase or CVS BENEFITS Competitive salary plus a comprehensive benefits package including 30 days holiday, generous training possibilities and Telespazio VEGA Deutschland pension scheme is offered to the successful candidate.
