Italy's WindTre fined over EUR 16 mln for personal data breaches

(Telecompaper) Italy's data protection authority, Garante Privacy, has fined WindTre a total of EUR 16.73 million for breaches of personal data legislation in the course of telephone, email and SMS-based marketing activities. Following a complex investigation, the watchdog found that WindTre used customer data without consent for promotional purposes, with users complaining that they had not been able to exercise their right to withdraw their consent.
