Kenneth Eastwood: State Education Dept. has another chance to get it right

This was the week of “Law and Order” in NYS education and also a time where the opt-out parents can be referred to as the true educational patriots in New York State. This past Monday, I was impressed by the passion contained in the Labor Day editorial entitled: “The opt-out forces will meet their match.” Passion aside though, there was a significant misunderstanding in the article, when its author implied that there was in fact a “law” that prohibited parents from opting out of the NYS Education Department grades 3-8 ELA and math exams.
