This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Meteorological Product Operations Engineer 1513037 Job Description We are looking for a Meteorological Product Operations Engineer to support our client EUMETSAT. The quality of EPS product services are continuously monitored for completeness, timeliness and data quality, in particular for radiometric accuracy and geolocation accuracy. Product operations tasks include collection of service quality indicators, regular reporting on these indicators, detecting any anomaly affecting service quality e.g. gaps in products, excessive distribution delays, noise or bias in the data, etc. Product operations engineers also contribute to the diagnosis and correction of anomalies, continuous improvement of product quality, introduction of new products and services. During the commissioning phase of a satellite, product quality assessment will be part of the EPS Calibration and Validation Cal Val. In this context your specific tasks would be Extracting relevant information from the ATOVSAVHRR EPS processing chains and Cal Val Facility CVF to perform regular production and quality monitoring reports. The reporting intervals are daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly Performing offline analysis of product quality Implementing new or revised products into the operational product processing chains Working on improvements of the existing product quality Maintaining contact with users to obtain their feedback on product service quality Elaborating, tracking and publishing service level quality indicators Reporting anomalies in product services, contributing to their diagnosis and tracking their resolution Supporting validation of new and improved products, and the compilation of the relevant product validation reports Required Skills and Experience In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you shall have a minimum of 3 years experience of the operational use and quality control of satellite or meteorological data. Specifically, you will have experience in the following areas Verification of operational product processing systems Configuration control of software and data Programming in C, C and Fortran Production monitoring and reporting Quality control of satellite data and products Utilisation of products from meteorological satellites Calibration and validation of satellite products Desirable Skills and Experience Experience in the use of image processing software such as IDL or ENVI in a UNIX environment Experience in the quality control of NOAA polar satellite data, meteorological observations and Numerical Weather Prediction data Knowledge of and experience with EPS missions and instruments Experience with work under UNIXLinux operating systems Experience in the use of Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 09 June 2015 Start of Work 01.08.2015 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career.
