This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Meteorological Products Software Engineer 1613041 Job Description We are looking for a Meteorological Products Software Engineer for our client EUMETSAT. You will part of the Atmospheric and Imagery Applications group. Your role will require support to develop, implement, validate, and evolve operational observational products from EUMETSAT and agreed third party satellites. The geophysical products most relevant to this post are those involving different cloud processes e.g. atmospheric instability, cloud formation, and precipitation derived both from geostationary and polar orbiting satellite data. You shall analyse, support the design, operational implementation and validation of the agreed changes to product algorithms. Similarly, you shall support the design, implementation and validation of new product algorithms. The work is carried out in small project teams consisting of relevant experts. You will also be involved in the analysis and resolution of anomalies relating to the product generation software. Your tasks will typically include Analysis of product change proposals Design, implementation and validation of updatednew algorithms Documentation of changes related to product updates Preparation of technical notes on product implementation issues Development, maintenance and update of product generation monitoring software and the corresponding database Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities Visualisation and analysis of geophysical products Required Skills and Experience A University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing Minimum of 5 years of experience in operational product generation from satelliteremote sensing data. In addition, experience in validation of geophysical products from satellite data is highly desirable. Practical, demonstrable experience with Algorithm software development using FORTRAN 9095 IntelGNULinux andor IBMPOWERAIX environments Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification and their documentation Source code control systems Subversion andor git Anomaly correction processes Python and IDL programming languages Common meteorological data formats, i.e., BUFR, CAP, GRIB, HDF5, and netCDF Authoring clear and concise technical documentation Desirable Skills and Experience Algorithm software development using CC programming language The operating systems GNULinux and AIX Relational databases using SQL Work Location Darmstadt, Germany Dates Application Deadline 05 April 2016 Start of Work May 2016 Important Notes Before applying to this position, please read the page Notes to Applicants on the Solenix website under Career.
