This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Meteosat Meteorological Product Support Consultancy 1313079 Job Description In general, the tasks of this Key Person will be towards the provision of support within EUMETSATs Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP to the routine monitoring and validation of satellite derived meteorological products. Within RSP, the Key Person will work in the team of the Atmospheric and Imaging Applications AIA in the group responsible for the routine product monitoring, validation and quality control, but in close interaction with the AIA scientists who are responsible for the development, maintenance and improvement of the processing algorithms. The focus of the product monitoring group is on the routine monitoring of the scientific quality of the operational products, validation of operational products, reaction to anomalies reported within this operational processing, support to the implementation process for new products or updates of existing products, and support to the necessary documentation work e.g. Algorithm Theoretical Baseline Documents, Validation Reports. The work will mainly deal with the products extracted from the series of EUMETSAT Meteosat geostationary satellites. An overview over the meteorological products derived from the EUMETSAT satellite data can be found in httpwww.eumetsat.intwebsitehomeDataProductsindex.html. It is expected that the tasks of the Key Person will include Support to the monitoring and validation activities of existing Meteosat algorithms and products. Support to new and enhanced algorithms and products, especially in the area of product validation. Preparation of technical notes and reports, notably with regard to validation reports. Attendance at technical meetings as required. Participation in RSPAIA team meetings. Required Skills and Experience University degree or comparable qualifications in Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics or related subjects. Demonstrated experience of at least 3 years in the area of satellite meteorology or satellite data and products monitoring and quality control for optical imaging instruments. 3 years experience in software development in a Linux or Unix environment is required, together with at least 3 years experience in a higher programming language as e.g. Fortran90, C or C. Experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision. The Key Person shall also possess good interpersonal skills. Fluency in English Desirable Skills and Experience Experience with graphics packages like IDL or Matlab.
