For our activities in ESAC, we are currently looking for a Mission Analysis and Payload Planning System Engineer. Main responsibilities You will interact freely with any member of the following institutions involved in science operations work All missions science operations centres and science ground segments teams External elements of the science ground segments if required, under the supervision of the ESA internal part of the science ground segments ESAC Computer Support Group MAPPS TEC team at ESTEC Mission Planning Working groups internal or external as requested. Furthermore you will have the following tasks and responsibilities System engineering and architectural design activities, including operating plans and procedures Designing, developing, implementing, testing, deploying, operating and maintaining software tools and systems, e.g. Observation proposal handling, mission planning and quicklook systems, parts of which may be distributed to the community User support tools Interactive analysis and calibration systems, to be distributed as needed to the community for data reduction and analysis Data processing pipelines Contribute to the definition of Interface Control Documents ICDs and file interchange formats with external coordination units Contribute to the maintenance of the overall system, including configuration control and versioning Organise and perform end to end system testing with the scientific communities Scientific data archives and interfacing these to the virtual observatory Scientific and technical WWW systems to support Science Operations Centre, Science Ground Segment and the scientific community. Implementation of new MAPPS features, in the area of the Graphical User Interface, and in backend processing software Building compelling, interactive visualizations timelines, maps, geometrical data, statistics, etc.. and user interfaces Participate in all phases of development specification, design, development, bug fixing, testing, and documentation according to the ESA software engineering processes. Ideal candidate Requirements You should bring a Master Degree in a relevant discipline, at least 4 years of working experience and the following Extensive experience with objectoriented programming and relative design patterns Recent experience in C development 2 years Extensive experience in designing and producing meaningful, effective interactive customized data visualization and Graphical User Interfaces GUI Experience in language tools for memory debugging, memory leak detection and profiling General knowledge on commonly used bug reporting systems e.g. JIRA and software versioning systems e.g. GIT Experience with the Windows and Linux operating systems Knowledge is required in system and software engineering practices Knowledge in the corresponding software development language, database systems Knowledge is required in ECSS standards for software development. The following would be considered as an advantage Experience in other programming languages, such as Java, C, Python Experience in developing web applications Experience with the Qt toolkit or any comparable C based GUI toolkits Knowledge of spacecraft systems engineering Experience in modelling and simulation of spacecraft systems.
