Space Applications Services performs and supports system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the aerospace industry. We are involved in international manned unmanned spacecraft programmes, earth observation, science, exploration, communications and related technology development. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Optical Communication Payload Operations, Guidance and Navigation Engineer mf Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Space Operations Centre ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. This position, generally referred to as a Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE, is responsible for the support to the Sentinels missions as a member of the Flight Control Team FCT during the operational phases, including special operations, and will also participate in test campaigns. The position will include the following tasks and responsibilities Act as Expert operations engineer in the Sentinels Optical Communication Payloads and in the Guidance and Navigation areas, during Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP, Commissioning and Routine phases. Validation, test and operation of the Simulator and of the Mission Control System MCS including the OnBoard Software Maintenance OBSM and Mission Planning System. Generation, validation and maintenance of the Flight Operations Plan FOP primarily on Attitude and Orbit Control System AOCS and Optical Communication Payload OCP, but also for other subsystems. Support to test and operate the Network Data Interface Unit NDIU. Support for Flight Operations System FOS procurement, integration and tests. Review of satellite documents. Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP support responsible for AOCS. Commissioning support responsible for AOCS and OCP. The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have as a minimum a Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline and minimum 3 years of experience in Operations Engineering activities. The following qualifications and experience are required Demonstrates knowledge and experience in Satellite Flight Operations, including FDIR, in particular in the areas of optical communication payloads operations laser links, Sentinels OCP and guidance and navigation AOCS, Ground Navigation and control are required. Experience with Packet Utilisation Standard. Experience in working in an operational environment. Experience with flight procedures life cycle, including validation. Experience with anomaly investigations. Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems. Experience with low Earth orbit satellites operations, including experience in preparatory phase OPSPREP, special Operations LEOP, deorbiting campaign and routine operations. The ability to work independently with little supervision. Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel. Capable to coordinate and Interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat, and management of SW life cycle. Familiarity with satellite control systems, ideally SCOS2000. Familiarity with Earth Observations missions, in particular with Copernicus Sentinels. Familiarity with Telemetry and Telecommand TMTC databases, preferably SCOS2000 compatible. Familiarity with multisatellite missions. Experience in ground tests preparation and execution, e.g. Satellite Validation Test. Experience in cooperation with Flight Dynamics teams. The following experience is desirable Familiarity with Network Distribution and Interface Units or similar Electronical Ground Segment Equipment EGSE. Familiarity with Mission Utility Support Tools MUST system used at ESOC. Familiarity with ESOC working environment and Quality Management System QMS. The position is located on site at ESOC and will involve short European travels.
