Optical Engineer Job Reference GTL201802111 Location Germany Our client based in Germany is seeking an Optical Engineer. It is mandatory that the candidate speaks and understands German. Tasks Development, implementation and validation of a performance assessment test bench and tools for space borne optical instruments encompassing both passive EOIR imaging systems, spectrometers and active LIDAR instruments Elaboration of verification strategies for remote sensing optical systems in thermal environment Specification, procurement, validation and operation of state of the art optical ground support equipment OGSE Calibration of optical test bench for optical instrument performance or components Assessment of test and verification plans for optical systems, subsystems and equipment Test planning and performance on optical systems under ambient and simulated space thermal environment Close cooperation with other technical disciplines mechanical design, thermal structural dynamics engineering, systems engineering, AIT Publications and conference contributions Qualifications University degree or equivalent qualification in optics, physics, engineering or related technical discipline with at least 5 years of professional experience, specific PhD preferred Skills and Experience Substantial knowledge in remote sensing, remote sensing systems and their performance evaluation Good knowledge in the field of optical modelling, simulation, analysis and aberration including stray light analysis, especially in the field of telescopes, spectrometers and interferometers Experience with optical labs, extensive and profound skills on optical setups, measurements, and data processing Experience with optical design software e.g. ZEMAX, Code V, ASAP Experience in assessing effect of environmental conditions on optical systems Excellent English skills, both written and verbal Speaking and understanding level of German language Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multicultural and multilingual team Ability to quickly establish rapport, build trust, and develop excellent working relationships with other team members, customers and vendors Optional Skills Advanced programming skills MATLAB, Python Experience of working in clean room environment from ISO 8 to ISO 5
