SRONs mission is to bring about breakthroughs in international space research. Therefore the institute develops pioneering technology and advanced space instruments, and uses them to pursue fundamental astrophysical research, Earth science and exoplanetary research. As national expertise institute SRON gives counsel to the Dutch government and coordinates national contributions to international space missions. Our Earth Science has a vacancy for a Postdoc fm vacancy number SRON 1432 Project Outline As part of the European Copernicus space segment, SRON supports the European Space Agency ESA in developing space missions to monitor anthropogenic greenhouse gases from space. The missions comprise instruments measuring sunlight, which is reflected by the Earth atmosphere, to provide the atmospheric abundances of carbon dioxide CO2 and methane CH4 with high accuracy. The project includes two major tasks to be performed 1 the joint development of a mission endtoend simulation capability with our project partners for Europeans future CO2 monitoring mission and 2 dedicated error analyses depending on instrument concept and performance. For this purpose, we are looking for a scientist with strong numerical experience who is capable to work in an international team. Requirements We are seeking for a candidate with a PhD in astrophysics or meteorology with strong programming skills and familiar with Python, CC and Fortran90 and experience in the fields of trace gas retrieval. Experience in the field of satellite remote sensing would be a clear asset. Good knowledge of the English language is essential, and the candidate should be capable of working both independently and in a team. Online screening may be part of the selection procedure. The salary will be in accordance with the salary scales of NWOI with a maximum of 4.237, gross per month on a fulltime basis highly depending on education and experience. SRON Utrecht moves in 2021 to Leiden.
