This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, calls for at least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing, including experience with radio occultation observations. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial validation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies The key experience and attributes sought are University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing, including experience with radio occultation observations Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Python Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Understanding and writing requirements Specification, development, and validation of satellite data processing chains Calibration and product validation methods Radio occultation data processing and applications Fluency in English is essential. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of two years starting in June 2013 with two options to extend for further periods of one year each.
