This is a position, calling for at least 3 years experience of developing scientific applications in CC. You will be placed on assignment based near Munich in Germany for several years. Candidates should be available to start in January 2017. Our client is is a 16nation intergovernmental research organisation for astronomy. This position may be filled on the basis that the individual is an employee of Pactum or operates as a freelancer. An individual who is not an EU citizen may be eligible to receive a German Blue Card permit if they are a graduate of a recognised university and choose to become a Pactum employee. The main working language is English. The role will involve developing data reduction pipelines for operational instruments for the quicklook assessment of data, the healthmonitoring of instruments and detectors, the generation of master calibration data, the reduction of scientific exposures, and data quality control. The work involves the preparation of data reduction procedures with implementation in ANSIC. The key experience and attributes sought are Development of scientific applications in ANSI CC A good working knowledge of the scripting language Python and optionally Perl Familiarity with UnixLinux environments Expertise with modern software engineering practices and tools, including SVN, GNU autotools, unit and regression testing Familiarity with the continuous integration tool Jenkins and with release management and installation systems Experience of the complete software lifecycle Expertise in image and signal processing methods Experience of statistical handling of scientific data Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Experience with MacOS for software development RPM package creation and distribution as well as familiarity with MacPorts Data reduction recipes based on CPL Astronomical data reduction methods and observational techniques Multithreaded programming Knowledge of virtualization such as virtual machines, VMWare, dockers or vagrant Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent.
