Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Senior Thermal Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. You will be working on analysis and thermal design tasks on variety of spacecraft projects Independently complete and plan with supervision thermal analyses and test activities to demonstrate achievement of thermal control system requirements. With guidance, lead analyst for up to medium sized project. Apply knowledge and experience of thermal analysis and test tasks as to select and justify thermal analysis tools, methods and process. Apply awareness of thermal systems products to establish design drivers to be assessed and focused on. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Work to specification with correct interpretation of thermal requirements. With proven understanding of thermal analysis principles and expected performance, complete and occasionally supervise others in analyses. Confirms and at times supervises the role and responsibilities of the thermal analysis function, standards of work and data management. As part of multidisciplinary team, ensure configuration detailed design incorporates key features necessary to enable subsystem, design for manufacture, integration and required hardware reuse. Ensure thermal testing achieves hardware qualification or acceptance, and quantify effectiveness of analysis and any prior correlation. Monitor identified thermal testing, complete posttest assessment and correlation activities. The authoring and at times checking of clear and concise thermal analysis reporting, demonstrating the understanding of thermal behaviours and compliance. Technical presentation of analysis and test results, observations and conclusions to experts and at formal reviews. Prepares and maintains plans, work package descriptions, schedules and risks as to ensure tasks activities are completed on time, on quality and on cost. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly 25 weeks overseas Europe to support thermal test campaign. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree or equivalent in Physics, Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or similar related discipline. Thermal or Thermal Engineering Software working background in the Space industry. Good understanding of Thermal System, Subsystem or equipment environment, Design drivers, Design and Functional Requirements validated by analysis and test. Developed understanding of Thermal Analysis Techniques, Methods and Principles. Developed knowledge and experience in the application of Thermal Analysis Software tools and the management of Simulation data. Strong experience with ESATANTMS or Thermica is mandatory. Practised in following work plans and cost estimates. MS Office, Excel incl. Visual Basic, MATLAB.
