We are looking to recruit a permanent Spacecraft Controller based at the Hawthorn Site in Wiltshire. The requirement is to work 44 hours per week 2 days on, 2 nights and 4 off. The Spacecraft Controller will successfully monitor and control the SkynetNATO constellation of geo spacecraft including the associated ground segment, operating procedures and documentation. Serco Defence are the current holders of the prestigious Skynet 5 contract which provides satellite communication services to the UK Government and Armed Forces. For our activities in Hawthorn Site, we are currently looking for a Spacecraft Controller. Tasks and Responsibilities Ensure all agreed operational policies, processes and procedures are adhered to. Represent Serco and the Customer at meetings and briefings as required. Ensure all meetings are attended as required or, provide a suitable deputy. Comply with, and ensure adherence to, the QHSE, FIRE, HR and Security Policies. Conduct any reasonable tasks or assignments as requested by line management. Ensure awareness of Operational and Contract KPIs and contribute to meeting targets set. Ensuring the health and safety of the Skynet fleet, ensuring all operations are IAW with documented procedures and are completed in a safe and timely manner. Correct acknowledgement, recording, and response to Spacecraft and Ground Segment alarms. Interpreting Orbital Software outputs. Correct operation of Flight AutoProcedures either manually or initiated by the Task Scheduler, ensuring the correct argument files are loaded. Correct and timely configuration of the Tracking Telemetry Command TTC path. Correct and timely configuration and initiation of Spacecraft Ranging as scheduled. Maintaining appropriate Spacecraft Controller Currency Levels recorded in the Currency Matrix. Completion of any appropriate task raised that enhances the performance, efficiency, safety, productivity or service delivery of the SOC as requested Requirements Candidates must have a solid background in a technical or electronic environment, to the level of Senior Technician. Ex service personnel should have completed a service College apprenticeship in electronicstelecommunications, and possess a background in Avionics, Air Defence, Air Radar or Communications. A formal qualification to ONC or HNC would be advantageous. Alternatively the position is also open for graduates with a qualification in a related subject such as Aerospace Engineering, Satellite Communications, Telecommunications, Physics etc. Experience working with computer systems and PC literacy is required. Candidates must be adaptable, selfdisciplined and able to work in a calm and correct manner under conditions of stress. The position requires working a shift rota candidates must be able to fit in well within a small operations team.
