Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations The European Space Agency is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from women POST Spacecraft Operations Engineer in the Gaia Spacecraft Operations Unit, Astronomy and Fundamental Physics Missions Division, Mission Operations Department, Directorate of Human Spaceflight and Operations. This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESOC, Darmstadt Germany. DUTIES The postholder will initially be assigned to the Gaia Flight Control Team as operations engineer and will report to the Gaia Spacecraft Operations Manager SOM. Tasks will include the following assisting the SOM in the preparation and execution of Gaia operations, including nominal and extended routine and endof mission phases performing the Acting SOM role when delegated assisting the SOM in the evolution and validation of the Operations Ground Segment OGS, including internal and external interfaces defining, preparing and executing ground segment validation tests, including acceptance, system validation and ground segment system tests for any ground segment upgrades planning and execution of routine, special and contingency recovery operations, including mission planning, reporting, anomaly investigation and resolution analysing and reporting on spacecraft and ground segment longterm performance interfacing with Mission Management and Science Ground Segment for mission and ground segment related activities interfacing with industry and ESA specialists regarding technical matters, including changes to spacecraft design and operations documentation interfacing with other ESOC Divisions regarding spacecraft operations matters providing support to other missions delegated to the Division, including Lisa Pathfinder, Euclid and future astronomy and fundamental physics missions as required providing support to corporate ESA and ESOC activities as required. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics, together with good professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications. Experience with both spacecraft platform and subsystem operations is required. Experience of a LaunchLEOP in an operational capacity would be an asset. Candidates should be systemminded, be able to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, be selfmotivateddisciplined and resultsoriented. Flexibility and adaptability is required in order to deal with a multisubjectmultiproject operational environment. In addition, applicants are required to demonstrate strong communication and relationship management skills in order to be able to manage interfaces with multiple counterparts. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 27 August 2015.
