ESAs OPSSAT is a CubeSat launched in December 2019. It has the sole purpose of testing and validating new techniques in mission control and onboard satellite systems. OPSSAT provides an inorbit testbed environment for the deployment of different experiments to test new protocols, new algorithms, and new techniques. On the experimental platform, the satellite will run the software experiments. Telespazio VEGA is looking to expand our team delivering services to ESOC with an additional Spacecraft Operations Engineer, dedicated to the OPSSAT mission. OPSSAT is devoted to demonstrating drastically improved mission control capabilities that will arise when satellites can fly more powerful onboard computers. The satellite is only 30cm high, but it contains an experimental computer ten times more powerful than any current ESA spacecraft. The Position The primary areas of responsibility for this service are Mission Planning and MATIS automation of procedures but the service may be extended to perform activities for additional subsystems or systems within the scope of general SOE services, including test, validation and operation of the Mission Control System and Simulator. OPSSAT is operated in a unique fashion compared to other ESA missions, where emphasis is placed on dynamic programming and automation. The procedures are written in C and the Mission Planning and MATIS automation are in Python and Linux, and on this mission the selected engineer is not just the user of the systems, but equally the software developer to a great extent. This position is based at ESOC in Darmstadt. It is fulltime and permanent and expected starting date will be around September 2020. We are looking forward to meeting you! ResponsibilitiesDuties The general activities to be supported by this service are depending on the phase of the mission Preparation and updating of Flight Control and Contingency Procedures Execution of the operations usually automated Mission Planning Support Service including maintainingevolving the Mission Planning Software OnBoard Software Maintenance Support Service Coordinating with experimenters and testing experiments with the Flatsats General Flight Control Support Service including Automation using MATIS Spacecraft Performance Analysis Qualifications Experience University degree or equivalent education in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering. Essential Skills Experience with computer programming e.g. VBA, python, C, Linux skills Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations Ability to work independently Fluency in English, both speech and writing. Desirable Skills Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS2000 Familiarity with procedure writing and testing Familiarity with MATIS.
