We are currently looking for a Senior Engineer to support XMMNewton Science Operations for our customer in Spain. Support to XMMNewton Science Operations Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the XMMNewton project team at ESAESAC, you will have the following responsibilities Support to the Observing Time Allocation Committee OTAC Optimisation of the observations for accepted proposals Maintenance of user support documentation and helpdesk service Longterm mission planning and scheduling including Targets of Opportunity Calibration and monitoring of the scientific instruments Participation in activities related to the systematic processing of all scientific mission data in order to produce highlevel products of direct use by the scientific community and for ingestion into the archive Participation in the production and regular updating of the XMMNewton source catalogues Provision of user requirements for the Science Archive Performing scientific research using available scientific tools. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Ph.D. or equivalent in astrophysics, physics, mathematics or related field Strong background in astronomical research with a good record of science publications in the astronomical refereed literature Scientific background in Xray astronomy in particular and experience in analysis of Xray data are required Several years experience in research institutes or universities at postdoctoral level would be an asset Working experience with commonly used astronomical software, like IDL, and of the XMMNewton Science Analysis Software and the Xray specific software tools Good knowledge of the XMMNewton instruments Experience in satellite operations, support to astronomers using space observatories and spaceborne instruments calibration would be an asset Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
