Kayser Space, recently established in the UK, brings a 30year heritage in science payloads and subsystems built up by parent company Kayser Italia, a leading supplier of experimental hardware for the International Space Station, specialising in space electronics and life science experiments in microgravity environments. Kayser is building a technology portfolio in the UK and has a long history of working with universities to bring innovations from the research laboratory into space applications. Kayser Space is currently expanding its team to work on ESA funded projects related to hardware development for life science experiments on board the International Space Station. The company is also involved in a range of other microgravity experiments, space technology development and the translation of space hardware and knowhow to other sectors, particularly within the life sciences remit. Key Tasks Responsibilities Reporting to the Programme Manager, the Technical Project Manager has main duties and responsibilities that include The delivery of space flight systems to an agreed baseline technical specification in a timely and cost efficient manner managing project finances, reporting, schedule and risk, with care taken to meet all legal and regulatory requirements. Provide technical and engineering leadership to the development teams, both inhouse and across consortium where applicable. Lead on meeting the technical requirements for complex projects, involving hardware and software components, including full systems integration and tests. Facilitate PAQA activities. Ensure systemwide coordination within an integrated project environment, requiring close working relationships with payload, system, hardware, software, EGSE and test engineers. In addition to managing project teams and providing support and mentoring to the Systems and Project Engineers, the SME working environment requires that the Technical Project Manager takes a handson approach to project delivery in some projects this will involve taking ownership of appropriate Technical Lead System Level tasks. Be first point of contact for all technical and project management matters, liaising directly with the client, endusers and partner organisations. Coordinate response to customer rids and execution of any remedial actions. Responsible for ensuring that all project documentation adheres to the relevant engineering standards and meet agreed scope and contractual obligations. Ensure controlled distribution and storage of technical documents. Proactive participation in business development and commercial tasks, such as identifying commercial and funding opportunities, market analysis, user requirements gathering, marketing documentation and client presentations, workshops and meetings attendance. Lead bidding activities including consortium forming, proposal writing, work package breakdown and task definitions, estimation of resources, schedule and costing. Maintain and expand knowledge of and contacts within the European and international space industry, research centres and government agencies. Essential Skills Experience Qualified to MSc or PhD level in Engineering, Physics or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years work experience in the space sector, particularly with full lifecycle systems engineering experience in space flight hardware development projects. Proven team leading and project management track record, including risk, cost and schedule management. Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers across international consortia to deliver space hardware projects, as well as bidding activities. Experience of working with ESA, knowledge of ECSS and issues of quality and safety. Knowledge of the European space industry, funding agencies and research community. Desirable Skills Experience Postgraduate qualifications to MSc or PhD level. At least 2year experience with project management responsibilities. Knowledge of quality and safety aspects, particularly in manned spaceflight environments. Knowledge of life science experiments, microgravity environments, radiation susceptibilityeffectsanalysismodeling andor CubeSat platforms. Right to work in the UK. This role is based in Harwell and will require full time attendance at our offices. There will be the opportunity for some occasional international travel to client sites, especially within Europe. The expectation is for the Systems Engineer to gain experience through involvement in a variety of projects and technical tasks, as well as commercial exposure to the space industry, to evolve into a Technical Lead with Project Management responsibilities.
