A vacancy has arisen for a Thermal Engineer with Astrium in Stevenage. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows The successful candidate will work on challenging missions like Bepi Colombo Mercury mission and Solar Orbiter, both of which will operate so close to the sun that they will be subject to a solar constant 14 times greater than that experienced in Earth orbit. Alternatively, there are spacecraft like Aeolus, Earthcare and Swarm which will orbit our planet Earth, gathering data on the planets behaviour and helping scientists understand issues such as global warming. There are numerous Telecommunication missions that enable people to connect with each across the planet. Last, but not least, the extraterrestrial missions. Projects like Exomars Rover which will explore the plant Mars and Lisa Pathfinder intending to measure and improve the understanding of gravitational waves, predicted by Einstein. The Thermal Engineer could work on whole spacecraft, instrument or unit thermal designs.
