A high-pressure "blowout" at a Utica Shale gas well in Monroe County, Ohio, on Dec. 13 that caused the evacuation of 28 families living within a 1.5-mile radius was finally brought under control Tuesday. Bethany McCorkle, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, said that "surface control" of the 10,653-foot-deep shale gas well, operated by Triad Hunter, a subsidiary of Houston, Texas-based Magnum Hunter Resources Corp., was re-established by Wild Well Control, a Texas company specializing in fixing well fires and blowouts.
