(Telecompaper) Malaysia's Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) has granted 5G spectrum to Telekom Malaysia (TM), Celcom Axiata, Maxis, DiGi and Altel. The five operators received 5G spectrum in frequency bands between 703MHz and 743MHz, as well as 758MHz and 798MHz.

The operators will explore business opportunities in relation to 5G strategic areas to deliver 5G services in Malaysia as soon as the necessary spectrum is made available. The potential collaboration focuses on the joint deployment of 5G infrastructure which will cover selected areas. Maxis and Celcom will still maintain their own networks and remain competitive in other areas.

Huawei to supply 4G/LTE, 5G radio equipment to Malaysia's Maxis

(Telecompaper) Malaysia operator Maxis has selected Huawei Technologies Malaysia for the deployment of its 5G network across the country. Under the terms of the deal, Huawei will supply 4G/LTE and 5G radio equipment and services for Maxis. Maxis plans to upgrade its existing LTE network to be 5G-ready. Maxis will also have access to insights, standards, products and services to support its 5G deployment and launch of 5G use cases in Malaysia. Huawei will also set up a team of experts to support Maxis on a series of technical training programmes on planning, operations and maintenance of its 5G network.
