For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Copernicus Altimeter Data Processing Expert. Main responsibilities Tasks and Responsibilities You will be a member of the Altimetry team in the Marine Applications section of the Remote Sensing and Products division. Your tasks will typically include Supporting the transition of Jason3 and Sentinel3A from the commissioning to routine operations phase Contribution to altimetry calval and quality control activities Analysis and correction of anomalies in the altimeter processing chains Supporting the commissioning and calval of Sentinel3B Specification and proto typing of evolutions of the altimeter processing chains Contributing to operational processor operation and maintenance activities Specification, implementation and evolution of operational quality monitoring tools Specification, implementation and evolution of product performance monitoring and reporting tools Maintenance and evolution of preprocessing and postprocessing elements. Your tasks will be mainly carried out at the EUMETSAT HQ in Darmstadt with frequent interactions with EUMETSAT partners. Travel within Europe will be necessary to follow the Copernicus activities. Ideal candidate Requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you should have, as a prerequisite a demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and operation of altimeter products processing systems. This experience shall include at least five years experience in algorithm development for operational Earth Observation missions experience in operational scientific data processing implementations. Experience with large, complex processing systems with stringent timeliness and availability requirements would be an advantage experience in scientific coding on Unixbased platforms inC, C, or Fortran detailed knowledge of established altimeters, e.g. ERS112 RA, Envisat RA2, CryoSat SIRAL, SARAL AltiKa, Jason12, etc. knowledge of DelayDoppler Synthetic Aperture Radar altimetry techniques would be an advantage experience in processing, analysis, and calval of altimeter data would be an advantage experience in interfacing with scientific organisations and user communities would be an advantage. The position requires excellent interpersonal, communication and reporting skills, combined with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
