EPA Focuses on Fracking, Leaks and More to Further Obamas Methane Plan
2014-04-15 21:16:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
EcoWatch: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Tuesday released five technical papers as the first step to enacting President Barack Obama`s recent plan to reduce methane emissions. The five white papers address different emissions sources and mitigation techniques regarding methane and volatile organic compounds. The sources of focus are fracking, leaks, compressors, liquid removal and pneumatic devices. "[The] EPA will use the papers, along with the input we receive from the peer reviewers...
Big Leaks Found in Pennsylvania Fracking Wells
2014-04-15 21:15:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ClimateWire: A new study has found that a small number of gas wells are releasing significant quantities of methane into the air even before they are hydraulically fractured, or fracked. The paper, published yesterday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is the result of measurements of methane made by flying an airplane over parts of the Marcellus Shale. The researchers detected a "significant regional flux" of methane, a greenhouse gas with about 30 times the warming potential...

Walking, 'talking' drilling rigs aim to modernize fracking
2014-04-15 21:02:11| Oil & Gas - Topix.net
Schramm Inc, which built the drilling rig that four years ago helped rescue 33 trapped Chilean copper miners, has designed a 500,000-pound rig for the oil and natural gas industry that can walk, rotate 360 degrees, be operated with a remote control, and load pipe automatically.

Texas Freezes Agency's Funding Over Release of Data Linking Fracking to Ozone Pollution
2014-04-15 14:03:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Observer: The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has consistently said that fracking has no significant impact on air quality, not in the Barnett Shale. Not in the Eagle Ford Shale. Not anywhere. It was news, then, when a TCEQ-funded study, performed by the Alamo Area Council of Governments, a San Antonio-area regional planning agency, suggested a link between oil and gas drilling and a recent surge in the region's ozone levels. Was TCEQ finally admitting that the fumes being belched out by gas...

Ohio Creates Tougher Fracking Rules to Reduce Risk of Earthquakes
2014-04-15 06:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Columbus Dispatch: State officials now say a series of earthquakes that shook Mahoning County last month likely were caused by fracking, leading them to create the most stringent drilling rules in the nation, requiring seismic monitoring near fault lines and epicenters. Yesterday, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources announced the rules, which say that monitors must be placed at new drilling sites within 3 miles of known fault lines or areas that experienced an earthquake greater than magnitude 2.0. The state...
