PDGS System Engineer

Position Reference 1006 We are currently looking for a PDGS System Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. You will have the opportunity to contribute to activities mainly corresponding to various stages of the Detailed Design Phase C of a given programme under definition and development, and Phase D Implementation and Validation, as contribution to Integration, Verification and Validation. The main emphasis is on the payload data ground segment of the EPSSG programme. This covers payload data acquisition ground stations and data processing elements. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Requirements engineering in DOORS. This includes review, specification and refinement of existing requirements, their uptraces to parent Ground Segment specifications, justifications and verification methods. Support to the procurement of payload data acquisition processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the responsible contractors, and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements. Refinement of ICDs, especially those between payload data acquisition processing elements and other GS functions. Support to the preparation and execution of the testing, integration and acceptance of procured elements. Support to the installation of ground segment element at sites, and their integration into the overall Ground Segment system. Verification and validation IVV of the integrated Ground Segment. Review of System, Space Segment and Ground Segment documentation dealing with requirements, concepts, algorithms and technical analyses of relevance for data processing, including review of calibration concepts defined by the Space Segment with emphasis on their implications on Ground Segment data processing concepts, interfaces and architecture. Participation in formal reviews and technical meetings at System and Ground Segment level. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in the areas and disciplines stated Experience in system engineering practices and processes, especially in the field of space systems engineering, including knowledge of ECSS standards and system life cycle processes Extensive experience in payload data ground segments for large and complex Earth Observation missions, including L1L2 processing software Experience in management and traceability of complex requirements structures and the management of their verification via VCDs Experience in the preparation of ground segment documentation relating to requirements engineering, design, and IVV planning and execution. Demonstrated experience in the above, with emphasis on overall systems engineering aspects of payload data ground segments or IVV of payload data ground segments. Ability to maintain a system overview. You should have a systematic approach to the work, and be able to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. Ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation is essential, as is the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context. Position Reference 974 We are currently looking for two PDGS SubSystems Engineers to work at our client premises in the city of Frascati, Italy. The key persons will provide technical expertise to support the EarthCARE PDGS subsystems Technical officer for the procurement of the subsystems dedicated to the PDGS Data Processing or the PDGS Mission Planning and Ground Segment Monitoring. The support is intended to be provided from phase CD to phase E1 and possibly during phase E2. The scope of the activity encompasses PDGS subsystems specification PDGS subsystems development PDGS subsystems integration and validation into the PDGS PDGS subsystems evolutions during phase E2. Review of documentation from various sources ESA, Industry during the project phases dealing with subsystems implementation and testing. Participation to Ground Segment Reviews and PDGS reviews organized either by ESA or by Industry. Management of the review item discrepancies, system or software problem reports and action linked to PDGS SubSystems implementation contracts. Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the relevant project phases. Operations of the various supporting tools for the part relevant to the PDGS subsystems implementation e.g. Documentation Management System. Support to the PDGS Integration and Validation and Ground Segment Validation phases addressing for the relevant PDGS subsystems Integration of the facility within the PDGS Definition of integration and validation tests Run of integration and validation tests procedures Test results analysis Test reporting. Support for operators training and preparation of operational documentation for the relevant PDGS subsystems Support for definition and documentation of the PDGS Commissioning Implementation Plan and procedures for the relevant PDGS subsystems Support for the preparation of the launch and the implementation of rehearsal activities for the relevant PDGS subsystems Support for the management of PDGS Operations, system behavior monitoring and reporting during commissioning for the relevant PDGS subsystems Adhoc development of tools for the accomplishment of the PDGS subsystems engineering, testing and validation, etc. During phase E2 Support for the subsystems impact analysis of new PDGS requirements deriving from new user needs andor new operational needs. Support to the PDGS subsystems specification evolution. Coordination of industry in charge of PDGS subsystems evolution and maintenance. Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the mission lifetime. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in engineering or Remote Sensing. Proven experience in one of the following subsystems PDGS Data processing, PDGS mission planning PDGS mission monitoring Experience on ground segments implementation, in particular on Requirements specification Development of PDGS subsystems Integration and validation System and Software anomalies management reporting, analysis, classification and resolution. Knowledge of the ECSS standards and, as an asset, documentation and configuration control management techniques. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Project management experience, preferably in the field of Earth Observation Ground Segment Development. Knowledge of the ESA Earth Explorers missions and instruments and processes related to their PDGS development.
