We are currently looking for a Optical Design and Analysis Engineer to support our customer in Germany. Optical Design and Analysis Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities The jobholder will work on optical design activities that are dedicated to instruments andor subsystems such as spectrometers, interferometers, high resolution spectral cameras and LIDAR Light Detection and Ranging systems. The main tasks and responsibilities will include Defining optical concepts for Earth observation instruments and performing the elated optical engineering tasks up to verification Performing optical design and analysis, as well as the related optical performance modelling and simulation typically including optical design, stray light, polarisation, optomechanical tolerance and stability analysis Performing the optical requirement definition, breakdown and budgeting of optical subsystems, considering optical performance parameters Ensuring concept tradeoffs and feasibility analyses, considering manufacturability, alignment and accuracy aspects, costs andor procurement sources of componentsequipment, space compatibility and technological readiness. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Hold a degree in Optical Engineering or an equivalent discipline Extensive knowledge of the optical design instruments Code V, Zemax, ASAP, FRED At least five years of work experience Experience handling multiple priorities whilst working to tight deadlines Willingness to travel occassionally to the Ottobrunn site Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Client and Location For one of our main customers ESAESTEC, we are currently looking for an Optical Instrument Payload Engineer who will give support to the Space Segment Performance Engineering activities within Earth Observation. Tasks and Responsibilities Under this work package the Contractor shall support the Space Segment Performance Engineering activities within Earth Observation. In particular the tasks include The development, implementation and validation of complex performance models of optical spaceborne instruments, in particular passive spectrometers instruments, dedicated to atmospheric missions The assessment of the instruments system performance as well as subsystems contributing to the instruments performances The contribution to meetings within ESA, industry and potentially with users. The Contractor will report to the Instrument System Performance Engineer. Heshe will liaise with various members of the project team, being responsible for the various instrument subsystems and disciplines, e.g. optics, focal plane assembly, calibration. With regard to the mission performance assessment it is expected that the incumbent also liaises with the science support team, where adequate, to support both the mission related scientific studies and the instrument design evolution. Experience and education The candidate shall comply with the following requirements University degree Masters in Physics with at least 4 year working experience in Optical Engineering Candidates shall demonstrate good familiarity with computer programs such as Excel, MathCAD and MATLAB andor Python Good communication skills Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world Fluent in the English language spoken and written knowledge of other languages is an asset.
