Earth Scientists Pin Climate Change Squarely On 'Humanity'

2013-08-06 23:06:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

National Public Radio: Most of the scientists who study the Earth say our climate is changing and humans are part of what's making that happen. But to a lot of nonscientists it's still murky. This week, two of the nation's most venerable scientific institutions tried to explain it better. The federal government's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued its annual State of the Climate report Tuesday. Mostly, it was bad news: rising sea levels, less sea ice in the Arctic and warmer oceans. NOAA said 2012...

Less Ice Means a Much Hotter Earth By 2100

2013-08-05 15:43:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

EcoWatch: The Arctic is intricately linked to Earth`s climate. As Arctic sea ice declines, the effects are being felt far beyond the Arctic region. Now a new study shows how losing sea ice means the top of the planet is absorbing more heat than it did just three decades ago--and it makes for a sobering read. Scientists have noticed big changes in the Arctic since satellites started observing earth from space, thirty years ago. The area covered by sea ice is getting smaller and the ice is getting thinner,...

Could greenhouse gases turn Earth into Venus?

2013-07-30 14:06:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Grist: How will the world end? A giant meteor? Zombie apocalypse? Death Star target practice!? One scientist thinks our planets death knell is going to be climate change, on an epic, terrifying scale but, fortunately, not the kind we need to worry about. The runaway greenhouse which is thought to have happened on Venus in the past is basically a climate change worst-case scenario: We reach a critical point where the atmosphere is so thick with greenhouse gases that no sunlight can escape back...
