We are currently looking for an Earth Observation Application Support Engineer to support our customer in the United Kingdom. Earth Observation Application Support Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will be working in ESAs Climate Office and will be leading the management of activities related to climate datainformation quality assurance in relation to climate data products, standards, algorithm validation and long term preservation. You will be responsible for The definition of the Climate Change Initiative CCI data access needs, both FCDRs and ECVs, in terms of Services Coordinated Interface, coreinfrastructure, analysis and reporting, and quality control The analysis, definition, initiation and management of industrial activities, associated to the distribution of Earth Observation data from the GMECV programme and the Climate Scientific User community Acquire, archive, document and make available in CMIP5 CCI products Definition and development of the CCI Data Portal Definition and development of the CCI Tool Box Support the development of climate services, especially international and intergovernmental public sector markets, including climate data visualisation. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree or equivalent in physics, engineering or an Earth sciences discipline Extensive experience in product definition, calibration, validation, algorithm development, quality assessment and exploitation of Earth Observation data, for ESA missions in particular Established profile of dialoguing the with Earth Observation research communities in disciplines relevant for climate Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage. Summary An experienced Earth Observation Application Support Engineer to work in Harwell in the ESA Climate Office, Science, Applications and Future Technologies Department, Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. Objective To provide expert support to the Head of the ESA Climate Office and will be leading the management of activities related to climate datainformation quality assurance in relation to the climate data products, standards, algorithm validation and long term preservation. Responsibilities Duties Support the definition of the CCI Data Access needs, both FCDRs and ECVs, in terms of Services Coordinated Interface,CoreInfrastructure, Analysis and Reporting, and Quality Control. The analysis, definition, initiation and management of industrial activities, associated to the Distribution of the Earth Observationdata from the GMECV programme and the Climate Scientific UserCommunity. Acquire, archive, document and make available in CMIP5 CCI products. This includes maintaining both the standards andprotocols, filenaming conventions, data formats etc already agreedbetween the CCI teams and the development of CFsatelliteconventions. Definition and development of the CCI Data Portal, a dedicated web portal setup to provide a single point of access for all CCI dataproducts. Definition and development of the CCI Tool Box, incorporating generic functions applicable to all ECV data products will beimplemented, in order to simplify analysis of multiple ECVs inparallel. Support the development of climate services, especially international and intergovernmental public sector markets, includingclimate data visualisation. Qualifications Experience Applicants should have a university degree or equivalentqualification in physics, engineering or a relevant Earth sciences discipline. This post requires extensive professional experience on product definition, calibration, validation, algorithm development, quality assessment andexploitation of Earth Observation data, particularly ESA missions Essential Skills An established profile of dialoguing with the EO research communities in disciplines relevant for climate. Applicants should be strongly selfmotivated, resultsoriented, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and beable to work effectively within ESA teams and in internationalcooperation. Then 5-year-old Saroo reportedly took a break from searching for change with his brother in Berhanpur, India, and hopped onto a stationary train where he fell asleep. Hours later, he woke up in Calcutta, alone and more than 900 miles away from home.
