You will be reporting to the Airbus DS GeoIntelligence UK Deputy Managing Director.This is a 9 months temporary opportunity fixedterm contract to help the team out during a maternity leave.The Head of Applications Operations Manager is responsible for and coordinating the Applications function Oil, Gas Minerals and Data Management to ensure that optimum use is made of production resources and transitioning the business plans into an operational model.Your main tasks and responsibilities will include A significant part of this role will involve managing the daily operational activities of the Applications team and the relevant business Programmes. The role will also include the provision of support to other business areas within the Geo organisation to include reporting at management meetings, general management and responsibility for the development of the Leicester office as a Centre of Excellence, managing the Profit and Loss accounts, client interaction and securing the growth of the customer base and customers loyalty by ensuring excellence in project service delivery.We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Proven and demonstrable evidence of Operational Delivery within an Earth Observation Services provision role. Proven Operational Programme Management skills within a similar environment. Proven track record with Financial Planning PL. Proven Staff Management Staff Development and outsourcing management skills. A strategic leader and able to infuse pride in organisational values and mission. Knowledge of the Oil and Gas industry would be useful but not essential. Knowledge of Quality Management and the ability to track and report on monthly KPIs. Strong oral and written communication skills in English. This position is for a limited duration of three years, nonrenewable, and is classified in the A2A4 grade band on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION World Bank Group Washington DC, USA. DUTIES The appointee will be responsible for promoting increased awareness of and for the operational use of Earth Observation EO information services within the World Bank. This will involve working in close cooperation with both bank staff and endusers in client states developing countries in support of demonstration projects with specialist EO service providers. The longterm objective is to achieve widespread acceptance and sustainability of EObased products and services within Bank operations. The main tasks will be liaising with World Bank WB project teams to facilitate smooth and timely interaction with the ESA teams managing the setup of largerscale EO Service demonstrations in support of WB projects in the domains of urban development, agriculture rural development, and water resources management liaising with endusers in the client states for these WB projects to facilitate their feedback regarding the utility of EObased information delivered, and promote increased takeup of EO services by a broader user base raising awareness of EO capabilities across a broader network of WB staff and capture and report on their operational requirements for geospatial information with a view to establishing longerterm adoption of such services in WB operations providing technical support to the land policy geospatial Global Lead in the area of Geospatial Information Systems GIS and their use in setting up a new geospatial initiative within the Bank supporting the communication of achievements via the relevant communication and education channels. These activities fall within the scope of the EO Envelope Programme, Value Adding Element VAE. This supports EO service providers to bridge the gap between new applications and sustainable EObased information services. It capitalises on innovative developments in science and technology resulting from ESA and European national EO missions. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or similar qualification in remote sensing, geospatial information or Earth sciences. A few years work experience postMasters in the area of EO applications and an understanding of the global sustainable development policy context is required. Knowledge of WB operations is an advantage. For this position, candidates must have a good knowledge of ESA and its activities in particular the EO exploitation programmes STSE, SEOM, DUE VAE and the broader capabilities of the European EO service sector an experience of pursuing dialogue with institutional users especially in developing countries, understanding the associated information requirements, and identifying longerterm opportunities for EO information services an excellent written and oral communication skills a background in geospatial analysis and experience with image processing, computer technology, and GIS software. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively, both in a team setting and autonomously. They must be able and willing to work in a highly multicultural environment. They should be selfmotivated, resultsoriented and flexible enough to be able to work in a range of technical areas. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
