Earth Observation System Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities As part of the Low Earth Orbit Division, the candidate will carry out tasks which support activities typically related to Phase BC of a space programme in the area of system design engineering and architecture definition. You will have the following responsibilities Justification of the system design including producing and maintaining any relevant analyses and budgets General support to system engineering activities, for example Documentation of system design and interfaces Support to the technical coordination with Partners Support to segment level activities and reviews as required Participate to System level formal reviews. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience Many years experience in the field of large scale systems engineering and architectural design Ability to analyse systems from an endtoend perspective Experience in preparing design documents, performing systemlevel analyses and to produce and maintain technical budgets. Experience in earth observation satellitebased projects, particularly in the areas of nearreal time data processing or spacecraft control systems Experience with Model Based System Engineering with the support of dedicated tools e.g. CORE Fluency in English is mandatory knowledge of French language is an advantage. Job description Our customer, EUMETSAT, will be managing the routine mission operations of the Sentinel3 low Earth orbiting spacecraft for the European Copernicus programme. The aims of the Sentinel3 mission include measurement of seasurface topography, see and landsurface temperature, and ocean and landsurface colour in support of ocean forecasting and environmental monitoring. We are looking for a senior Earth observation image Products Formats, Test Data and Test Tools engineer for activities mainly related to the PDGS Data Processing Mission within the ThirdParty Data Services Team of the SEP Division at EUMETSAT. Responsibilities As the Products Formats, Test Data and Test Tools engineer, you will support the Sentinel3 Operations with respect to EUMETSATs Marine Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS in particular anomaly correction and software release process maintenance and necessary evolutions, including the necessary coordination with the data processing systems engineering and the multimission element engineers for the related interfaces with the rest of the Sentinel3 ground segment. This is a fulltime position located at EUMETSATs premises in Darmstadt, Germany. The start date is October 2015, or earlier if possible. Working time is normal working hours, with oncall support during critical operations. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have the following background At least 5 years of experience in testing and maintaining product formats and formatters, test data and tests tools for large scale software systems missioninstrument data processing related. Experience in engineering evolutions of such software, test data and tools. Knowledge and experience is required of software development lifecycles, system testing for Earth observation systems and use of test data and tools for supporting this. Knowledge and experience is required of formats and associated formatters used in Earth observation e.g. netCDF for marine applications and also used in other communities including HDF, BUFR and GRIB. Good knowledge of CICIJava programming language experience in a UNIXLinux based environment Scripting languages e.g. Python, Perl, TcliTk, shell XML and related technologies e.g. XPATH, SVG Fluent written and spoken English. The position requires a person with able to work independently and with selfmotivation. The candidate should be able to work with little supervision, but also be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively within a team.
