U.S. EPA will accept applications through January 29, 2016 for second annual Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awards. To qualify for Safer Choice label, product must meet EPA's Safer Choice Standard of human and environmental health criteria. EPA will present at least one award in each of 5 categories: Product and Chemical Manufacturers, Purchasers and Distributors, Retailers, Supporters, and Innovators.

These collaborative initiatives apply sustainable materials management practices to decrease wasted food and municipal and industrial wastes in the United States, leading to economic and environmental improvements. EPA provides tools, resources, and support to help participants establish baselines, set objectives, track progress, and realize goals.

U.S. EPA is partnering with U.S. Department of Agriculture, pork and dairy producers, and environmental and scientific experts to launch Nutrient Recycling Challenge, a competition to develop affordable technologies that recycle nutrients from livestock waste. Participants will develop technologies that extract nutrients from livestock manure to generate products with environmental and economic benefits that farmers can use or sell.
