MTS raises outlook as revenues increase 7% in Q3

(Telecompaper) Revenues of Russian and CIS operator MTS Group grew by 7.4 percent year-on-year in the third quarter to RUB 115 billion, led by demand for data services and smartphones. Adjusted OIBDA totaled RUB 48 billion, down by 2.4 percent, and the adjusted OIBDA margin was 41.7 percent. MTS said OIBDA was impact by cost inflation, margin pressure outside Russia and new commercial policies in its retail network. Net profit dropped by 6.4 percent to RUB 14.4 billion, hurt by forex losses. MTS raised its guidance for the full year and now expects annual revenue growth of around 4 percent, compared to a previous outlook for at least 2 percent growth. The company maintained its forecast for an OIBDA margin of over 40 percent and capital expenditure of around RUB 92 billion over the full year. In Russia, revenues grew by 4.7 percent to RUB 103.92 billion in the third quarter, while OIBDA declined 2.1 percent to RUB 44.53 billion amid higher costs for increased smartphone sales. Mobile revenues, including sales of devices, grew by 6.4 percent to RUB 90.6 billion, led by 20.2 percent growth in data revenues to RUB 20.6 billion. The subscriber base grew by 3.6 million compared to a year ago to 76.9 million at the end of September, while ARPU dropped by 4.6 percent to RUB 341.

(Telecompaper) Russian national operator Rostelecom announced that its consolidated revenues declined by 2 percent year-on-year to RUB 216.336 billion in January-September, as calculated under international accountancy standards. OIBDA dropped by 3 percent to RUB 75.027 billion, while the OIBDA margin totaled 34.7 percent, down by 0.5 percentage points. The net profit decreased by 32 percent to RUB 10.274 billion. Capex totaled RUB 43.383 billion, up by 34 percent. The net debt decreased by 4 percent to RUB 174.899 billion. Consolidated revenues declined by 3 percent year-on-year to RUB 72.496 billion in the third quarter. OIBDA dropped by 4 percent to RUB 25.182 billion, while the OIBDA margin totaled 34.7 percent, down by 0.3 percentage points. The net profit decreased by 59 percent to RUB 2.046 billion. Capex totaled RUB 15.978 billion, up by 44 percent. The operator reduced operating expenditures by 3 percent in the third quarter. Around 29,500 households were covered with the fibre optical network in July-September.

Oi sees 3.3% drop in Q3 revenues

(Telecompaper) Brazilian operator Oi reported BRL 6.51 billion in third-quarter revenues, down 3.3 percent year-on-year. The company was hurt by the reduction in mobile termination rates and outsourcing its handset operations. EBITDA improved 10.6 percent to BRL 1.74 billion, as a result of the continued focus on cost efficiency and profitability of the existing customer base. Operating costs fell 7.5 percent to BRL 4.78 billion, helping the EBITDA margin improve 3.4 percent to 26.7 percent. Capex was BRL 950 million, down by a third from the year-earlier period, of which 85.6 percent was directed to the network. Net customer revenues (excluding handset sales and revenues from network usage) reached BRL 6.07 billion, an increase of 0.9 percent. In mobile market, customer revenues rose 8.1 percent year-on-year to BRL 1.78 billion, driven by the increase of 52.8 percent in data revenues (including VAS). Oi also highlighted the increase in its residential ARPU, up 8.3 percent to BRL 79.50. The total customer base was still 4.3 percent lower year-on-year at 71.84 million at the end of September. This included a 5.0 percent drop in residential customers to 16.5 million, 3.9 percent fall in mobile to 47.06 million, and 5.0 percent drop in business subscribers to 7.60 million. In the residential segment, the number of fixed line customers fell 8.2 percent to 10.22 million, broadband customers were down 2 percent to 5.13 million, and pay-TV customers grew 13.4 percent to 1.17 million.
