Nokia Q4 revenues up 9%, underlying profit grows 28%

(Telecompaper) Nokia reported fourth-quarter revenues up 9 percent year-on-year to EUR 3.80 billion. Adjusted operating profit rose 28 percent to EUR 524 million, while EPS was still down 58 percent to EUR 0.08. Nokia reported revenue growth across all three divisions. Nokia Networks sales increased 8 percent to EUR 3.4 billion, led by a strong performance in North America, and licensing revenues were up 23 percent to EUR 149 million, thanks to more income from Microsoft for making Nokia phones. HERE achieved 15 percent annual growth in revenues to EUR 292 million, helped by positive trends in the automotive market. Nokia expects the sales growth to continue in 2015 and also raised its outlook for profitability at HERE. The company increased its annual dividend to EUR 0.14 per share from EUR 0.11 in 2013.

Facebook revenues grow by 49% in Q4

(Telecompaper) Facebook reported fourth-quarter revenues rose 49 percent to USD 3.85 billion from USD 2.59 billion the prior year. Revenue from advertising was USD 3.59 billion, up 53 percent, and mobile represented approximately 69 percent of advertising revenues, up from 53 percent a year ago. Payments and other fees revenue rose 7 percent to USD 257 million. Operating profit was unchnaged year-on-year at USD 1.133 billion, and net income grew to USD 701 million or USD 0.25 per share, from USD 523 million or USD 0.20 per share a year earlier. After free cash flow of USD 1.07 billion in the quarter, Facebook finished the year with cash of USD 11.20 billion. Daily active users (DAUs) for December 2014 increased 18 percent to 890 million on average, and mobile DAUs were up 34 percent to 745 million. Monthly active users (MAUs) rose 13 percent to 1.39 billion in December, and mobile MAUs increased 26 percent to 1.19 billion.

Apple announces record quarterly revenues of USD 75 bln

(Telecompaper) Apple posted record quarterly revenue of USD 74.6 billion for its fiscal first quarter to December, up from USD 57.6 billion a year earlier. The result was well ahead of the company's forecast of USD 63.5-66.5 billion. Net profit rose to USD 18 billion or USD 3.06 per diluted share from USD 13.1 billion or USD 2.07 per share. The gross margin grew to 39.9 percent from 37.9 percent, also beating Apple's outlook of 37.5-38.5 percent. International sales accounted for 65 percent of the quarter's revenue. The results were fuelled by all-time record revenue from iPhone and Mac sales as well as a record performance of the App Store. iPhone unit sales of 74.5 million also set a new record.

Microsoft profit slips as revenues get boost from cloud

(Telecompaper) Microsoft revenue for the quarter to December rose to USD 26.5 billion from 24.5 billion the year before, with particularly strong growth again from commercial cloud services. Operating profit slipped to USD 7.8 billion from 7.97 billion, and diluted earnings per share went a bit lower to USD 0.71 from 0.78 the year earlier. The results include USD 243 million worth of integration and restructuring costs, or a USD 0.02 per share negative impact, related to both Microsoft's restructuring plan announced in July and the ongoing integration of the Nokia phone business. Devices and Consumer revenue grew 8 percent to USD 12.9 billion, led by Surface tablet revenue up 24 percent to USD 1.1 billion. Phone Hardware revenue reached USD 2.3 billion, with 10.5 million Lumia units sold. Office 365 Home and Personal subscribers increased to over 9.2 million, up 30 percent from the previous quarter. Xbox console sales totaled 6.6 million units, after a strong holiday season performance. Commercial revenue grew 5 percent to USD 13.3 billion, driven by commercial cloud revenue surging 114 percent from the year before, with an annualised revenue run rate of USD 5.5 billion.

West Marine reports improved 2014 revenues, announces CFO transition

West Marine, Inc. announced certain preliminary and unaudited financial results and updated earnings guidance for its fiscal year ended January 3, 2015, or fiscal 2014, and the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer. Total revenues for fiscal 2014 are expected to be approximately $676 million, within the range of previously-issued guidance of $665 million to $680 million.
