French competition authority fines Google EUR 150 mln over Google Ads rules

(Telecompaper) The French competition watchdog said that Google abused its dominant position in the search advertising market, by enforcing opaque and difficult to understand rules on users of its Google Ads service. The company also failed to provide non-discriminatory access to the ad platform and unfairly suspended the accounts of clients such as directory enquiry specialist Amadeus, which had previously lodged a successful complaint against Google. The watchdog has imposed a EUR 150 million fine on the company, and has requested the introduction of clearer Google Ads rules.

Vodafone exits Malta in sale to Monaco Telecom for EUR 250 mln

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Group announced an agreement to sell all of of Vodafone Malta to Monaco Telecom. The cash purchase price gives the Maltese mobile operator an enterprise value of EUR 250 million, equal to 7.8x EBITDA for 2019.

1&1 fined EUR 9.55 mln for GDPR infringement

(Telecompaper) The German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) has fined 1&1 a total of EUR 9.55 million for infringing the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The company failed to protect sufficiently its customer service line, allowing third parties to access customer personal data by providing only a name and date of birth.

Altice fibre JV to acquire French infrastructure operator Covage for EUR 1 bln

(Telecompaper) Altice Europe announced that its French fibre venture SFR FTTH has agreed to acquire infrastructure operator Covage for a total cash consideration of EUR 1.0 billion. The deal was reached with the operator's two main shareholders, private equity firm Partners Group and Cube Infrastructure Fund. The latter was reported to have hired Morgan Stanley earlier this year to find a buyer for its 50 percent stake in Covage.

French govt wants 5G spectrum auction floor price of EUR 2.2 bln

(Telecompaper) The French secretary of state for the telecom sector, Agnes Pannier-Runacher, said that the 3.4-3.8 GHz spectrum on sale in the forthcoming 5G auction will have a minimum price of EUR 2.2 billion. In an interview with Les Echos, she explained that the country's four operators will each be able to acquire a block of 50 MHz at a fixed price of EUR 350 million in the first phase of the award process. After the allocation of the four blocks, totalling 200 MHz, operators will have to bid for the remaining 110 MHz of spectrum in an auction that will see each block of 10 MHz selling for a starting price of EUR 70 million. At the end of the two-part tender process, the maximum spectrum holding that an operator can obtain is 100 MHz.
