Dutch fixed telephony revenues drop below EUR 300 million

(Telecompaper) Dutch fixed telephony revenues decreased below EUR 300 million during the first quarter of 2016, according to Telecompaper's latest Dutch Fixed Telephony Market report. During the quarter fixed telephony revenues decreased by 4.6 percent to end March with EUR 287 million. The continued decrease in revenues is due to lower usage and lower prices and is ongoing since 2013. The number of fixed telephony connections decreased by 4,000 during the quarter, to end it with almost 6.3 million. The 0.6 percent growth in digital lines was not enough to off-set a five percent decrease in PSTN/ISDN lines.
Nokia, China Mobile enter EUR 1.36 bln frame deal

(Telecompaper) Nokia and China Mobile entered into a one-year frame agreement valued at up to EUR 1.36 billion whereby Nokia will provide equipment and services to the mobile operator for its transition to a cloud network infrastructure. Both Nokia Networks China and ASB will provide services under the agreement. Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy its 5G-ready AirScale Base Station, which allows multiple radio technologies to operate simultaneously in one base station and offers virtually unlimited scalability to support 5G speeds and IoT demand. Nokia will also provide additional elements of its mobile radio access and core portfolio in addition to fixed access, IP routing and optical transport, customer experience management, operational support system (OSS) and third party products as well as its global Services expertise.
Vivendi increases Gameloft bid to EUR 8.00 a share

(Telecompaper) Vivendi increased its hostile takeover bid for Gameloft by 11 percent to EUR 8.00 from EUR 7.20 a share a week before the offer closes on 27 May. The offer was raised automatically under French rules after Vivendi bought some shares at the higher price on 19 May. Vivendi said it now owns 29.4 percent of Gameloft shares and 26.5 percent of votes.
EC plans EUR 3 billion fine against Google - report

(Telecompaper) The European Commission is preparing to fine Google around EUR 3 billion for abusing its dominant position in the search market, the Daily Telegraph reported. Officials in Brussels are putting the finishing touches to a seven-year investigation of the company and are expected to announce the sanctions within weeks, according to the paper's sources. The report said officials aimed to make an announcement before the summer break and could make their move as early as next month. As well facing as a heavy fine, Google will be banned from continuing to manipulate search results to favour itself and harm rivals.
Telecom Italia offers EUR 820 mln in cash for Metroweb

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia has tabled a formal EUR 820 million all-cash offer to acquire Milan-based fibre provider Metroweb, according to an unnamed source cited by Reuters. Metroweb is currently owned by state-lender Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and infrastructure fund F2i, with Swisscom subsidiary Fastweb also retaining a minority stake, and the report indicates Telecom Italia is prepared to buy 100 percent of the company or a two-thirds controlling stake. Telecom Italia's bid pits it against utility giant Enel, which has reportedly offered around EUR 400 million for the 54 percent stake in Metroweb owned by F2i, valuing the broadband provider at EUR 776 million.
